PROJECTSIntroduction [Biosketch]
- Dr. Amritesh Kumar, born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, India, in 1986, is a distinguished academic and researcher in power electronics. He earned his B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from SASTRA University, Tamil Nadu, in 2009, followed by an M.Tech in Power Electronics and Drives from BITS Pilani in 2011. He obtained his Ph.D. from Delhi Technological University (DTU) in 2017. Since June 2018, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at NIT Silchar.
- A recipient of several prestigious awards, Dr. Kumar was honored with the VEL TECH Merit Scholarship for academic excellence at BITS Pilani, the Commendable Research Award from DTU (2017), and the POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA-2018) in the doctoral category for his outstanding research contributions.
- Dr. Kumar has authored over 40 research articles and book chapters in reputed SCI/Scopus-indexed journals, IEEE Transactions, and leading international conferences. He has successfully supervised three Ph.D. scholars and leads cutting-edge research in areas such as EV charging infrastructure, grid-connected photovoltaic systems, multilevel converters, power quality, high-gain converters, solid-state transformers, AC–DC microgrids, and distributed control of microgrids.
- He has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of two sponsored research projects, including:
- 1. SERB-SRG Project (₹30 Lakh): Design and Development of Soft Interconnection for DC Microgrids Using Power Electronics Interface for Improved Reliability of Power Supply (Successfully Completed)
- 2. SERB Sponsored IMPRINT-IIC Project (₹1.89 Crore): Feasible Coordinated Controlled Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Sourced DC-Based Fast Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles: Design, Development, and Experimental Validation (Successfully Completed)
- Dr. Kumar holds an Indian patent for a “Dual Active Bridge-Based Fast Charging System for Electric Vehicles”. He currently serves as In-Charge of the APEC Lab at NIT Silchar, driving innovation in power electronics and clean energy solutions (for more info visit the APEC LAB).
